Manomet Teams with Eagle Optics to
Protect Shorebird Breeding Grounds.

Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences appreciates the generous support of Eagle Optics as Lead Corporate Sponsor of our shorebird study project in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Eagle Optics, based in Middleton, Wisconsin, is a supplier of Binoculars, Spotting Scopes, Telescopes, and Outdoor Gear from all major manufacturers. This company is committed to maintaining and improving the quality of our natural world.

At the heart of Manomet’s project is protecting shorebirds on Alaska’s North Slope. Fourteen shorebird species breed on the coastal plain area that includes the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the National Petroleum Reserve, where oil drilling is already underway. Six of these species are in serious decline and may be threatened by development in the Arctic. The data that the Manomet’s team collects will help develop the first map of shorebird density on the coastal plain. Working in cooperation with research, government, industry, and conservation groups, Manomet’s project is focused on helping develop habitat protection and management protocols on the North Slope.

“We’re delighted to support this first-ever project,” says Eagle Optics President Daniel Hamilton, “and we value the difference that science can make in conserving treasures like the Arctic Refuge for the benefit of shorebirds and other wildlife.”
